Clement Ong, Director
Clement read law at Bristol University and graduated in 2013, thereafter being admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2015.
Clement represents clients in complex commercial litigation matters such as intra and inter-company disputes, joint venture, insolvency and contractual disputes. Clement’s proficiency also includes cryptocurrency, defamation, IT and data law, intellectual property and trust disputes and he has been featured in local and foreign news publications.
Clement’s crime practice includes white-collar crime involving complex commercial fraud, money-laundering and banking.
Clement’s local and cross-border discipline also includes acting for major players in the private wealth sector to advice on a range of commercial and corporate transactional matters, banking matters and real estate matters. For particular clients, Clement also acts in family, mental capacity and criminal proceedings.
Some of Clement’s more recent notable experiences include:
- Acting in the Court of Appeal in a novel matter in respect of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (Reed, Michael v. Bellingham, Alex (Attorney-General, intervener) [2022] SGCA 60);
- Acting in the Court of Appeal in relation to joinder, injunctions, breach of confidence and conflict of interests (Lim Oon Kuin and others v Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP and another appeal [2022] SGCA 29);
- Acting in the High Court in an insolvency matter in respect of a cryptocurrency staking firm (Re Hodlnaut Ltd [2022] SGHC 209);
- Representing directors of financial institutions in respect of 1MDB related matters;
- Representing a director in respect of charges pertaining to Hyflux Ltd;
- Acting in the Court of Appeal pertaining to an oppression and misappropriation action (Teelek Realty Pte Ltd and others v Ng Tang Hock [2021] SGCA 70);
- Acting in the Appellate Division of the High Court in respect of a common law derivative action (New Ping Ping Pauline and others v Eng’s Noodles House Pte Ltd [2021] SGHC(A) 4)
Clement has also co-authored legal commentaries on the Prevention on Human Drug Trafficking Act, Protection of Harassment Act and proposed changes to the Criminal Procedure Code and is a member of the International Bar Council. He is also a committee member on the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.
Clement is the President of the Singapore Muaythai Federation.
Clement is fluent in English and Mandarin and ab-initio in spoken Thai.
