Brenan Mah, Associate

Brenan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2021 and was called to the Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2022.

Brenan had completed his Practice Training Contract with the firm before later joining as an Associate in 2022.

Brenan is primarily engaged in litigation work that covers a wide range of complex civil and criminal matters. His experience includes director/shareholder disputes on minority oppression and disputes involving high-value contracts.

Brenan also handles non-contentious matters such as advising on and the drafting of Wills as well as advising clients on regulatory matters.

Some of Brenan’s more recent notable experiences include:

  1. Defending a criminal charge of an alleged conspiracy to enter into a corrupt transaction under section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1960 within the bunkering industry. During the course of the trial, Brenan made written submissions in respect of, amongst other things, disclosure obligations as provided for in Kadar and Nabill;
  2. Defending a criminal charge of remaining outside Singapore without a valid Exit Permit under the Enlistment Act 1970 including making written submissions on a novel point of law.
  3. Defending criminal charges under the Penal Code 1871 and other penal provisions including but not limited to the Customs Act 1960, Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 and Road Traffic Act 1961.
  4. An application for the return of one’s travel document under section 113 of the Criminal Procedure Code 2010.

Brenan is also fluent in Japanese having passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1.

While in law school, Brenan participated in the 17th Intercollegiate Negotiation Competition held at Sophia University in Tokyo that had a focus on International Commercial Arbitration and emerged runner-up against strong competition from other world-class universities.

Outside of work, Brenan is an avid cyclist and also enjoys oil painting. Brenan is also always on the lookout for a good book and even more so for any discussion that may flow from it.
