Carmen graduated from the University of Bristol in 2019 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore on 2021.

Carmen’s active areas of practice encompass a range of criminal litigation work (including both blue and white collar work) and criminal advisory matters. Carmen also has experience in commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Carmen is also emplaced on the Supreme Court’s Legal Assistance Scheme for Capital Offences’ (LASCO’s) Register of Junior Assisting Counsel.

Some of Carmen’s recent notable experiences include:

  1. Representing an accused person who was alleged to have engaged in a conspiracy to corruptly give gratification to a marine surveyor to under-declare marine fuel oil delivered to a vessel.
  2. Resisting the extradition of two brothers to the United States. The brothers are alleged to have engaged in acts involving and relating to the importation, smuggling and trafficking of adulterated and/or counterfeit medication into the US.
  3. Representing and advising a director of a Singapore company for claims involving allegations of, inter alia, fraudulent trading, for an amount of approximately US$3.5 billion.
  4. Assisted in the appeal for an accused person who was convicted and sentenced to the death penalty for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking transaction. On appeal, the Court of Appeal found that a crucial element of the charge had not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt and ordered for an acquittal.

 

Outside work, Carmen practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
